Chapter 5

In this chapter we will look at the practical offensive and defensive techniques, as we have now covered the basics of Genseiryu Karate-do. We asked Kunihiko Tosa to choose some special techniques, which are known only in Genseiryu. Needles to say, that off course Genseiryu Karate-do also has punches and kicks, as those of other styles.
P MANJI GERI

Against an enemy's Oi-tsuki, apply a counter attack with Hidari Shajo-geri (pictures 19, 20 and 21) and then pull your leg out quickly. Against the unbalanced enemy, put the fight to an end by using Kakato-geri (picture 22 and 23). This is the combined use of HEN and NEN. The name of Manji-geri is given due to its body rolling movement using continuous kicks.

Q MAWASHI- & USHIRO MAWASHI GERI
At the exact moment when the enemy utilizes Kizami-tsuki, apply Mawashi-geri (pictures 24 and 25) and then pull out the leg in order to apply Ushiro Mawashi-geri (pictures 26 and 27). This is the usage of the principle TEN.

R MIGI ASHI BARAI, HIDARI SHAJO GERI
How to use Hidari Shajo-geri effectively was explained in nr. 1. Start out with Hotate-gamae and make the enemy loose his balance by applying Migi Ashi-barai (sweeping of the enemy's front leg). Then apply Hidari Shajo-geri (pictures 28 and 32). This technique is kind of easy to use in Kumite, and is the utilization of the principle of HEN.

S FUJO SASHIKOMI ASHI
Start with Hotate-gamae pulling your right leg up next to your left leg and then turn your body down to the ground. At this very moment, hook your left leg to the enemy'sleft leg and pull (pictures 35 and 36). Apply Ebi-geri against your unbalanced enemy (picture 37). This is the usage of the principle of TEN.

T SENTAI SASHIKOMI ASHI
Start with Hotate-gamae, hook your right leg to the outside of the enemy's leg (pictures 38, 39 and 40). The important point is that you have to keep your body low to try to disappear from the enemy's view. Turn you body and hit simultaneously with both hands (Shuto-uchi) when rising up your body (pictures 41 and 42). Pull your right leg to let the enemy loose his balance and then apply Morote Shotei-tsuki. This is one of the ideal techniques of Genseiryu Karate-do - making the enemy loose his balance by attacking the lower parts of his body - and then attacking the upper parts of the body.

You can use this effective technique, which is the usage of the SEN principle against anyone who has no knowledge of this technique.
